Many studies have shown that unconscious bias training is only marginally effective in counteracting bias.

This may be related to the fact that unconscious bias training is often predicated on the assumption that bias is hardwired into our brain and we have little hope of overcoming it. By contrast, this training is based on the working hypothesis that while cognitive biases are mostly connate, they can be counteracted and indeed overcome with sufficient training of the mind. This programme thus offers a radically different approach to most available neuroscience-based programmes. it offers a classification of biases as conative, attentional, cognitive and emotional, based on a four-fold framework of mental balance. It offers a bottom-up, rather than top-down approach to counteracting biases through training the mind, rather than behaviour. Meditative practices are introduced to support the empirical observation and investigation of our biases and to offer antidotes that can be applied and practised in daily life.

In this programme you will learn:

  • The neuroscientific understanding of bias in the brain
  • A classification of different biases based on a four-fold model of mental balance
  • Practices for overcoming conative bias
  • Practices for overcoming attentional bias
  • Practices for overcoming cognitive bias
  • Practices for overcoming emotional bias
  • How to apply insights about bias to the workplace
  • Ways of integrating practices into daily life
